»When I was lying in that hole of mine, I have made a lot of promises. One of them was that if I get out of there alive, I will never come to Nevis again unless I make a really big contribution to the safety of that island and helping to get a helicopter is one of that kind. If this plan is realised, I will be most happy to visit Nevis again.«
The more I think about my 8-days being lost in the jungle
of the Nevis Peak mountain, the more I realise that Nevis needs a helicopter. It
was only on the 3rd day that the rescue team managed to get a helicopter from
Antigua, but only for three hours (it is very expensive to bring and hire it).
During those three hours I could hear and see the rescue helicopter so that it's
crew could also see me if they would be just looking in the right directions. If
the helicopter would be in the air for a longer time, there would be better
chances to see me. My conclusion is that if Nevisian rescue authorities could
afford to use a helicopter for a whole day, slowly scaning the whole
area (or maybe during a few days, because of the temporary invisibility caused
by clouds), they should see and track any missing person. I am sure that there
will be other urgent matters when a helicopter could (will) be used for the
common welfare in Nevis.
This is the reason that I have decided to help Nevis get a
helicopter. My financial donation for that purpose will be considerable,
possibly in the range of $150.000 to $200.000. I just can not
prescribe that much money immediatelly from my savings and that is why I will
try to get other resources, to achieve my (our) goal sooner. Firstly I will
try to get some money my publishing my story something that a lot of people
have told me to do. I realise that a professional rescue helicopter costs much
more, but there are other possibilities, like additional fund raising or joint
investment with some other islands (companies). Of cause additional costs of
maintaining and staff recruitment should be taken into account prior to the
investment. In this respect it would be perhaps better to combine activities
with existing sevices, like Caribbean Helicopters in Antigua.
The event seems to
have (had) a very strong effect to
the public, both in Nevis and in Slovenia. I had a lot of interviews for the newspapers, TV and radio - including a two
hours "night talk" on
the Slovenian national TV. Since I have put my English web page I keep receiving mail also from the
USA, although I have not made any publicity there. It seems that people care a lot
about other people's destiny and identify with a real life experience presuming
how would they react in a similar situation. If my story would be completed with
the other side my wife's worries and efforts to save me and the many good
people's helping her it would become a decent subject for a book, articles
or script for a movie or (Discovery type) semi-documentary. Any resources of
this kind I will immediatelly transfer to the Nevisian trust fund to by a
helicopter or prescribe such emergency services in any other way. Of cause I welcome also any other contributions to this cause.
For the time being
I need mostly good advise how to publish my story, probbably in the USA, becuase
of the best potential market. I suppose a good agent would be a must from the
beginning? I will inform about my activities right on this page.
